This morning I want to take you to a city called Curtiba which is in the south of Braziland introduce you to a charity called VFC which I started over 8 years ago.
Who’s seen the film “run fat boy run” well that’s me I am intending to run the Curtiba 10Km and raise much needed funds for VFC.
So whats VFC about:
Well Brazil has the most number of street children in the world and when I first went I came back and said iyt either been a great holiday or in our own way we can start something that will make a difference – VFC when then born
Voice for Change fills a special place in the city of Curitiba, because we take on the children, normally brothers and sisters in groups of three or more, who nobody else will take on.
They come to us with many problems, having suffered physical, emotional and sexual abuse, neglect and abandonment, never having formed good attachments in their lives, and headed for the scrapheap.
Our team take these children and look after them as if they were their own.
In our 8-year history we have opened four houses in the city of Curitiba, – we have had to close two of these houses, however, due to armed robbers attacking two houses and threatening to kill all the inhabitants.
25 children have been through our houses to date, children who have been given hope for the future by Voice for Change, and who could well have been dead now if they had not ‘found’ us when they did.
We also work in a centre which we have established in one of the city’s favelas, where 100,000 poor people live and try to eke out an existence in some the most difficult of situations.
At our centre we provide food, education, social skills, art and cultural activities, and above all, care and concern for 100 children from the favela each day.
Our dream is to provide a thousand homes for abandoned and orphaned children, to enable them to be loved and cared for, and nurtured in a family environment where they can fulfil all their potential, and take their place as members of society
These are the real story’s of Children that VFC look after
